Come along to our new The Pet Behaviour Centre at Pet Expo

If you have any questions about your  pet's behaviour,  please come along to the Pet Behaviour Centre and  speak with
Jim Stephens our Pet Behaviour Counsellor , who has been awarded a Master of Science degree in Companion Animal Behaviour Counselling.

Here are some of the areas Jim covers in his clinic:

Canine Behaviour Problems   Canine Behaviour Problems Picture

Some behaviours such as inter-dog or dog-human aggression, separated-related barking or destructivenss, noise phobias etc., although benefiting from obedience training require a thorough behaviour modification consultation and assessment.

There are many organic/veterinary causes for changes in behaviour which need to be excluded prior to embarking upon a behaviour modification programme.

Since each dog is genetically different and has had different experential learning, it is important that correct diagnosis of the problem and appropriate behaviour modification techniques are identified. Consultations take approximately two hours and a detailed report is provided. Follow-up lessons may be required.

What works for a friend's dog may not work for your dog and even make the situation worse.

Behaviour problems are often specific to the experiences your dog has undergone. Early experience, socialisation, diet and medical conditions, and training can all contribute to the problem. Therefore a detailed history of the problem is the first step to an accurate diagnosis.

Feline Behaviour Problems    Feline Behaviour Problems
Common feline problems include spraying, scratching and excessive grooming which tend to be symptoms of underlying problems.

Introduction of a new cat into a multi-cat household, loss of toileting habits, inter-cat aggression and inter-species aggression can be other feline behaviours which inhibit the cat-human realationship.

Since each cat is genetically different and has had different experiential learning, it is important that correct diagnosis of the problem and appropriate behaviour modification techniques are identified

Small Pet Behaviour Problems     Small Pet Behaviour Problems Picture

Rabbits, rats, mice, hamsters and guinea pigs are social animals. Inappropriate housing or handling techniques can result in stress for the animal which shortens its life or result in aggressive behaviours when picked up or groomed.

Birds of all species, when caged, can exhibit anti-social behaviours, such as attention seeking, often feather plucking is seen in cases of parrots under stress.

Aggression in reptiles can be a difficulty for humans to live with, yet with the correct behaviour modification techniques such problems can be resolved.

All the above species are capable of being trained. It's simple, effective and enhances your realationship with your pet.

Come along have some fun at Pet Expo in our Kids Soft Play Area,

It'll blow you away..

We are currently working hard on the schedule for Pet Expo 2011 to make it even better and more exciting. This year the show is all indoor with the exception of our visiting Farm Animals.  There will even be a special designated dog loo and dog refreshment area outside for our visiting four legged friends. Be sure to check back often for updates as plans and news breaks.
